SonUmbra Tree Provides Shade and Company

SolarTree.jpg

The SonUmbra is made up of light-emitting fabric that has been woven into branches. Designed by Loop.pH, its canopy captures sunlight during the day, then shines all night. The "sonic shade of light" is intended to be a shelter from the sun in remote areas by day and a great place to meet by night. Displayed at this year's London Design Festival, MoMA and Mowbray Park, Sunderland, the electroluminescent fibers make it not only practical but artistically aesthetic.
